  3. Yamaha Soft Synthesizer S-YG20 Trial Version

  6. Thank you for your interest in Yamaha products. 
  7. The S-YG20 Soft Synthesizer (hereafter referred to as the S-YG20) is a software-
  8. type MIDI tone generator that uses the CPU power of a personal computer to produce 
  9. sound.  In the same way as an external MIDI tone generator, MIDI playback 
  10. applications such as the following can be used with the S-YG20 to produce high-
  11. quality sound.

  13. - The MIDI player included with the S-YG20 
  14. - The MediaPlayer included with Windows 95(R) 
  15. - Commercially available karaoke software and sequencer software 
  16.  
  17. Please try out the S-YG20 Trial Version and enjoy playing back various MIDI files.

  19. * This trial version can be used for 90 days after first use or until December 
  20.   31. 1997, whichever comes first. 
  21. * Please be aware that no user support is provided for the trial version.

  24. <About the S-YG20>
  25.  
  26. The S-YG20 provides 360 sounds which include 128 GM-compatible sounds, 9 drum 
  27. kits + 2 SFX kits, and also reverb, covering not only the conventional GM sounds, 
  28. but also sounds unique to the XG format proposed by Yamaha (some substitute 
  29. sounds are included).
  30. To modify the sound quality settings, click the Yamaha SGMP Driver icon in the 
  31. Control Panel to start up the setting window, and specify the output sampling rate, 
  32. the stereo/mono setting, and reverb on/off. As far as the CPU loading will permit, 
  33. we suggest that you listen with settings of 22 K, stereo, and reverb turned on. 
  34. If this places too heavy a load on the CPU and notes are interrupted during 
  35. playback, try turning off the reverb, or setting the sampling rate to 11 K.

  65. when the S-YG20 is played by an external MIDI device (such as a MIDI keyboard).
  66. * The S-YG20 cannot be used in DOS or in a DOS box. 
  67. * While the Soft Synthesizer is being used, the MIDI playback volume is controlled 
  68. by the WAVE setting of the mixer. 
  69. * While the Soft Synthesizer is being used, it is not possible to run two or more 
  70. MIDI applications.

  82. <Installation>

  84. 1. Run setup.exe.
  85. 2. Then follow the directions that appear on screen to perform the installation.
  86. 3. After your computer is restarted, the S-YG20 will be available for use.

  89. <Operation>
  90.  
  91. * Playing back MIDI songs on the MIDI player included with the S-YG20 
  92. 1. After installation, start up the MIDI player which is located in the S-YG20 folder. 
  93. After the program starts up, click the [SET] button. In the tone generator setting 
  94. dialog box, select [YAMAHA SGMP Driver]. Sample songs are included for your 
  95. listening enjoyment. For details on operation, refer to the help file.

  97. * If you are not able to select [YAMAHA SGMP Driver] from the MIDI playback 
  98. application (for example if you are using the MediaPlayer) 
  99. 1. From the Control Panel, open [Multimedia]. 
  100. 2. Choose [MIDI], and from the [MIDI Output] item [Individual Device], choose 
  101. [YAMAHA SGMP Driver].
  102. 3. Click the [Apply] button, and then click the [OK] button.

  105. <Un-install procedure>
  106.  
  107. You will need to un-install the software before installing the product version etc.
  108. Use the following procedure if you wish to delete the S-YG20 from your hard disk.
  109.  
  110. 1. Click the Start button, and start up [Uninstall S-YG20] which is found in the 
  111. Yamaha S-YG20 folder inside Programs (P). 
  112. 2. After the program starts, follow the directions given on-screen. 
  113. 3. When your computer is re-started, S-YG20 -related files will be deleted from 
  114. your hard disk, and you will be able to install new drivers.

  117. <Troubleshooting>
  118.  
  119. Can't install
  120. - Do you have the required hardware (hard disk, memory, etc.)? 
  121. - Do you have the required software (MS-DOS, Windows, etc.)? 
  122. - Installation may not be possible if your hard disk has insufficient free space. 
  123. Delete unneeded files to increase the amount of free space. 
  124.  
  125. Will not start up
  126. - Do you have the required hardware (hard disk, memory, etc.)? 
  127. - Do you have the required software (MS-DOS, Windows, etc.)? 
  128. - Was the program installed using the correct procedure? 
  129.  
  130. No sound
  131. - Check the settings within Multimedia. Is the MIDI setting set to YAMAHA SGMP Driver?
  132. - The S-YG20 cannot playback on an 8-bit sound card. 
  133. - If you are using MWave, do not use this S-YG20 software. 
  134.  
  135. MIDI-compatible games do not produce sound 
  136. - The S-YG20 cannot be used on DOS or in a DOS box. Window-compatible games 
  137. which use MIDI are supported.
  138. Since the Soft Synthesizer places heavy demands on the resources of the 
  139. computer, please be aware that, due to the combination of the CPU and memory in 
  140. your computer, or due to other applications which are running concurrently, there 
  141. may be cases in which processing cannot be performed on time, causing notes to be 
  142. interrupted.
